Question: What are some affordable makeup brands, aside from elf?

Answer: To get the most bang for your buck, my suggestion is head to the almighty drugstore.

Your local CVS, Walgreens or Rite Aid can be a treasure trove of cosmetics. With so many products to choose from, it’s easy to build your makeup collection without breaking the bank. E.l.f. is always a safe bet for drugstore purchases, but there are a handful of other brands that always keep their prices on the lower end of the spectrum.

My personal favorite is Nyx. Their prices are very similar to e.l.f’s, and a few of their products are staples in my makeup bag. Their jumbo eye pencils are great — you can use them as a lid primer, as lid color, or even as a base for lipstick. They also make a Bronzer/Blush combo (seen here) that is one of the best drugstore purchases I’ve ever made. Their lip glosses are long-lasting and shiny, and overall, they are my #1 pick for an affordable drugstore brand.

Another great option is Wet n’ Wild. In my experience, their eyeliners, eyeshadow palettes, and lip glosses have all worked well for me.

If you poke around the aisle long enough, it’s often possible to find great deals on bigger-name brands such as CoverGirl, Neutrogena and L’Oreal. And remember: use coupons! :)
