Question: What is the difference between BB cream and tinted moisturizer? Which is better?

Answer: Even though BB cream and tinted moisturizer appear to be the same, they are actually two very different products.

Generally speaking, BB creams are much more pigmented than tinted moisturizers, and thicker as well. They’re three products all-in-one: foundation, concealer, and moisturizer. When you use a BB cream, the only base product you need is a foundation primer. They often have skin brightening qualities, anti-aging ingredients, and SPF (35 or above is pretty common). They’re suitable for most skin types (because a good BB cream is super-breathable), and they’re notorious for being long-lasting.

Tinted moisturizers are thinner, and don’t offer the same coverage or color payoff as BB creams. They’re lightweight, making them a great choice if your skin is in good shape and you want only minimal coverage. They often don’t have the same skin brightening qualities that BB creams do, but they come in a much wider variety of shades, which makes finding your perfect color match easier. They tend to wear off faster, but most still offer sun protection with an SPF between 15 and 30.

In my opinion, BB cream is the way to go if you want a 3-in-1 product that lasts all day and shaves minutes off of your morning beauty routine. BB cream is perfect if you’re looking for a foundation, concealer and moisturizer all-in-one. But, if you want thin coverage, hydration and sun protection—try a tinted moisturizer.

What do you think? Which of these products do you prefer?
