Question: What are the best homemade face masks?

Answer: There’s nothing more wonderful than whipping together a face mask with ingredients from your very own kitchen. DIY masks are much cheaper than most you’ll find at a store, plus they’re all-natural with ingredients you can pronounce and eat! Once you know the properties of each ingredient, you can get creative and customize them to your own skin needs.

  • The yogurt mask: 1 ½ tbsp. greek yogurt, 1 tbsp. raw honey, and 1 tsp. lemon juice (for very oily skin) or olive oil (normal/dry skin)

Greek yogurt is rich with lactic acid which exfoliates and moisturizes the skin. Raw honey is antibacterial due to the hydrogen peroxide it contains. Lemon juice is high in Vitamin C and B and acts as a natural astringent. Olive oil is brimming with anti-inflammatory properties, vitamins, and antioxidants. To create this mask, mix together and leave on the face for 10-15 minutes.

  • The avocado mask: ½ avocado, 1 tbsp. raw honey, and 1 tsp. coconut oil

Avocado is rich in omega fatty acids, biotin, and several other amazing moisturizing and repairing properties. Coconut oil is also incredibly nourishing and beneficial to all skin types. When combined with raw honey, this mask is the perfect solution for skin that’s craving a moisture boost. In cold weather, this will feel seriously amazing on the skin. Mash the avocado with the honey and coconut oil, and leave on the face for 15 minutes.

  • The papaya mask: ½ papaya and 1 tsp. olive oil

Papaya is rich in alpha-hydroxy acids that turn over dead skin cells and leave your skin bright and cleansed. To counteract the exfoliating properties of papaya, olive oil will provide moisture and protect the skin. Mash the papaya with the olive oil, massage into the skin and leave for 10-15 minutes. This mask is wonderful for lightening dark spots and adding glow to lackluster skin.

  • The egg white and honey mask: 1 egg white, 1 tsp. lemon juice, and ½ tsp. raw honey

This mask is perfect for acne-prone skin or skin with discoloration. Egg whites have natural collagen and proteins that’ll help to repair skin cells. Combined with the astringent effect of lemon juice and anti-bacterial properties of honey, this mask is amazing for cleansing and imparting a youthful glow.

  • The cacao and avocado mask: ¼ avocado, 1 tbsp. (brewed and cooled) green tea, 1 tsp. raw honey, 1 ½ tbsp. raw cacao powder

This mask is packed with antioxidants and natural vitamins. Raw cacao has incredible antioxidant properties and will remove toxins from the skin. Combined with moisturizing avocado and honey, this mask is a chocolate-y delight that will revive and protect your skin.
