Because fashion trends come and go, a lot clothes end up in the back of the closet gathering dust. And even though most of us know we’ll never wear some of these items again, it’s still difficult to part ways. But, a clean, organized closet means a fresh start. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when cleaning out your closet:

Clean Closet Tips

1. BE YOUR OWN INSPIRATION

In the age of social media, it’s so easy to check out pictures of what other people are wearing and copy their looks. Pulling inspiration from others isn’t wrong. However, you need to find out what YOUR style is. In the words of the great Coco Chanel, “Fashion fades, style remains.” This is so true! A closet filled with a range of different styles can be very overwhelming. Such chaos can make you feel like you’ve lost your fashion identity! Think about the clothes in your closet. Are they all a certain style, color, pattern, or texture? Can you define your style? Are you more of a preppy girl, or more of the bohemian type? This is one of the most crucial steps in getting that closet organized and fresh!

2. “I’LL DEFINITELY WEAR THIS SOMETIME!”

When it comes to clothing, a girl’s inner hoarder can sometimes emerge to keep a tight grip on everything in her closet! We’ve all used the phrase “I’ll wear it sometime!” as an excuse to hold on to that old, worn t-shirt! WARNING: DO NOT FALL FOR THIS! Its tough, I know. Yet, in order to get that closet clean, you need to part ways with the clothing you hardly wear. Have a rummage through your clothes and think about how often you wear certain pieces. Come up with three different outfits you can style out of the item in consideration. If you can’t even think of one, maybe it’s time to say goodbye!

3. PARTING WAYS

I know how you feel. It’s difficult to part ways with your clothing. To make things easier, why not think of alternative ways to give away your stuff. Not all your clothes have to go in the trash bin! Give them to charity! Not only will it make you feel good about yourself, but donating your duds will also motivate you to get rid of all your old, unwanted clothes! Or, why not sell your pieces? It will make you a bit of money, which is always helpful. Turn your old clothes into someone else’s new style!

Simplify your closet and celebrate the stylish and brand new you!
