Question: What clothes will make me look thinner?
Answer: The way you dress can be such a fun expression of your personality. At times letting our true self shine can be difficult because, well — body shapes can be confusing to deal with. I’m here with good news and a few tips to keep in mind when putting together your outfit.
Tip 1: This is the first and most important tip, so take it to the grave. The big tip is…buy clothes that fit. It’s tempting to buy a size up to cover up those places we don’t love, but trust me: this will only make those problem areas worse. Now I’m not saying buy only tight clothing, but make sure the things you do buy are the right size for you. It will make a world of difference.
Tip 2: Darker colors are the way to go. For example, maybe you’re not too crazy about your legs—wear a dark denim pant paired with a brighter top. Dark colors are wonderful when it comes to hiding things we don’t like. When choosing a pair of jeans, don’t immediately go straight for the skinny jeans. Yes, it’s called a skinny jean, but that doesn’t mean they make you look skinny—skinnies aren’t flattering for all shapes. A good go-to is a nice boot cut jean. They’re elongating and also slimming in a dark wash.
Tip 3: Show off your assets. Don’t be afraid to show off the beauty of your body! If you have long, beautiful legs, show them off in a lengthening jean or a dress and heels. If you have an hourglass figure, wear a piece that cinches at the waist to show off those curves. Don’t be afraid to be bold!
