If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, winter is undoubtedly right around that chilly corner! Have no fear: you can still rock the 90s crop-top trend—even after the thermometer drops!
Here are great five ways to style a cropped sweater:
1. High Waist is the Way, Baby!
You’ve probably heard a million stylists babble on about how ‘chic’ and ‘classy’ it is to mix a shorter length top with a high rise trouser. And well, that’s because it’s true! Especially when the temperatures have dropped: who wants to subject that little bit of bare tummy to hypothermia? Nope… didn’t think so!
For a cozy, sports-luxe vibe, keep your high-waist trousers slouchy and team it with trainers.
If baggy ain’t your thing, combine your crop with high-waisted skinny jeans for a juxtaposing vibe. This look is also great for bottom-heavy girls, as the baggy crop makes your upper-half look larger, balancing out your figure.
2. Layer Over a Button-Up
Dress down a button-up shirt by layering a crop sweater over the top. The layers will keep you warm whilst the regular length of the button up will ensure that bare tummy is well and truly covered.
Keep the look simple by combining sweaters and button-ups in a monochrome palette. This also looks cool combined with patterned trousers and skirts.
Alternatively, combine prints with solid colours for a cool look. Hint: if you want all eyes to be drawn to the crop knit, wear a patterned knit with a plain shirt. And vice versa: opt for a patterned shirt and a plain knit if you want the shirt to be the focal point of your attire.
3. Layer Over a Dress
This is layering for when it gets suuuper chilly! Keep warm by layering your crop sweater over a cute cotton dress (for Autumn) or knitted dress (for Winter).
Choose a dress with a Peter Pan collar for an added cute factor, like style guru Alexa Chung.
Don’t pack those summer maxi dresses away just yet! Layer over your sweater and your all ready for fall. Also, when it gets super chilly, wear your leggings under your maxi and everyone will be none the wiser!
Rock the co-ord trend by combining a print cropped sweater with a corresponding bottom of the exact same print. If there’s a chilly tummy gap, layer under a nude vest.
Style a chunky, knit crop with a matching knit skirt for a snuggly, but fashionable look.
5. Mix Up Your Textures
Knit textures look effortlessly chic whilst mixed with sequins, lace and denim. Muss up those textures and keep it interesting girl!
How amazing does a knit crop look with a sequin skirt? It’s a perfect dressy-casual balance.
Its official: Leather or pleather (faux leather) goes with everything. The smooth texture of the leather looks amazing with a contrasted chunky knit.
