Question: What is the best makeup for dark brown hair and blue eyes?

Answer: Blue eyes are beautiful, and there are endless ways to make them pop with eye makeup. A lot of what will look best for you will depend on your skin tone, but here are a few suggestions to get you inspired!

Bronzes, rusts and golds

The warm pigments in colors such as bronze, rust or gold will help balance out the coolness of blue eyes, making for a bigger contrast. Blue is directly opposite of orange on the color wheel, so any shade with an orange, yellow or red undertone will  look beautiful. You can incorporate these stunning shades using either eyeshadow or eyeliner. I personally love the look of a bronze cream shadow or liner, and I’d highly recommend Maybelline’s 24 Hour Eyeshadow in “Bronze” ($5.84, amazon.com). I would pair a shadow like this with a nude, shimmery gold or brown lip—depending on the occasion.

Purples

Blue eyes tend to get washed out by blue or green shadows. Purple eyeshadow is a great way to bring out those baby blues without using contrasting colors—not to mention it’ll spice up your look with vibrant hues.

A great drugstore palette to try is Covergirl’s Eye Enhancers Palette in Ice Princess. If you’re interested in using purple to line your eyes, vouch for Urban Decay’s 24/7 Liner in Rockstar or Vice. I would pair a look using these shades with a neutral, pink or plummy lip. If you’re feeling bold, try bright matte pink lipstick!

The brown smokey eye

Smokey eyes are a classic choice for a night out, but using the traditional blacks, gun metals and silvers can look harsh next to blue eyes. Instead, try a smokey eye using shades in the brown family instead. For the highlight, use a light pink or cream color. For your lid, use anything from taupe to medium brown, depending on the intensity you’re going for. For the crease and lower lash line, use a deep brown shade.

To achieve this look, use the brown shades featured in Stila’s in the Light palette. Pair any smokey eye with a nude, glossy lip
