Question: What should I wear on a date to the movies?
Answer: Ah, the classic movie date. I can think back to the first time I ever “went steady” with a boy and nervously sat next to him at the movie theatre. Somehow sharing a tiny armrest with someone else can be both appealing and comfortable. The inevitable inching closer and closer begins to go down, until wham, bam, slam—full on hand-holding ensues.
As I think back to this time, I honestly can’t remember what I wore. However, as a frequent moviegoer, I’d love to share my insights. Here are my thoughts surrounding what to wear on a date to the movies:
First, I cannot overemphasize the importance of bringing a sweater or cardigan to the movies. I am one of those girls who gets cold no matter what the setting may be. So, you’ll likely see me bringing a jacket or sweater along on any movie date.
As far as what else to wear on a movie date, I usually stick with something casual and comfortable. I don’t recommend wearing any tight little dresses or stiletto pumps on your date to the movies. I mean, first of all—how uncomfortable. And secondly, you’ll probably look as though you’re trying too hard. Just saying.
Sticking with a simple pair of jeans or a long maxi will ensure that you are both comfortable and warm. I don’t know about you, but I don’t think sitting in place is the most comfortable position. I always worry about how my legs look or how much space on the seat I take up. But, I’m a woman and that’s just how we can be. Taking this into consideration, I usually choose a look that is flattering to sit down in.
The great part about choosing a simple, casual look like a pair of jeans or a maxi skirt is that you can dress it up with accessories. Add a fun headband, a pop of color with a statement necklace, or an adorable pair of shoes and a cute little clutch. The possibilities are endless!
To sum it up: wear a look that is comfortable, warm, and make sure that it’s something you feel confident in. Your date will be sure to inch your way!
