Question: What are some great double-duty makeup products?
Answer: The only thing better than a great makeup product is one that has multiple uses. There are certain products that have this double-duty claim to begin with, like the cult favorite Benetint from Benefit. This rosy hued product acts as as both a lip and cheek stain, but sometimes the best way to derive multiple uses from a product is simply by experimentation! Some of my favorite double-duty products were discovered by complete accident, like Maybelline baby lips, which I recently discovered works beautifully as a cream blush. The gel formula provides moisture and just the right amount of color – perfect for these dry winter months! Specifically the color Cherry Me has the perfect red tint and gives you that flushed just-came-from-spinning-class glow. Not only will you get a lovely red tint on your lips, but also a natural flush—all for under 4 dollars. Now that’s a fabulous double duty product.
Another great drugstore double-duty product is the Revlon Photoready Skinlights Illuminator. This is a somewhat recent addition to the drugstore and, in my opinion, a hidden gem. The color Bare Lights is a neutral highlighting liquid, leaning slightly more towards gold than pink. It provides glow without being shimmery and has a really beautiful feel on the skin. It can be mixed in with foundation for an all-over radiance, or patted on to the tops of cheekbones for a subtler glow. This eye cream has a slight tint and highlighting effect, similar to the Revlon Illuminator. To achieve that wide-awake look that we all need sometimes, mix in a drop of the Revlon Illuminator with your normal under-eye concealer. It applies like a dream, and adds a very subtle highlighting effect that makes it look as if you’ve gotten an extra 5 hours of sleep. Any product that can do that, and give my face a healthy glow, is a winner in my eyes!
Sometimes multi-use products are discovered out of necessity, like the types of products that seem to work beautifully when pressed for time. A great example of this is bronzer. Using bronzer as eye shadow is a great way to get a beautiful wash of tanned color on the eyes. There are a multitude of beautiful bronzers out there, Nars Laguna being the cult favorite. Laguna has a bit of shimmer to it, and looks lovely on the face as well as the eyes. One of my favorite matte bronzers is the Physicians Formula Corrective Multi-Color Bronzer. This bronzer mosaic has 6 neutral matte colors, ranging from a light pink to a deep brown. Not only does it provide great color to the face, but each individual color can double as the perfect crease shade, under the brow highlight, and even as a brow powder if used with an angled brush. With a little experimentation, you’d be surprised how many of your makeup products provide multiple uses!
