We all have graphic tees, but we all don’t get the chance to wear them. Often times when I’m shopping, the one thing I ask myself is, “Can I wear this to work?”. So if you ask yourself the same thing, you might pass up that graphic tee you love, but don’t know what place it might have in your life.
There are several things you can do to dress up a graphic tee for work or for going out. For work, you need to think to yourself, ” what can go with this to make it work appropriate?” My first thought is almost always a blazer. So now, you are beginning to build your work outfit.
The second thing is, what should you wear as bottoms? For the office, with a graphic tee (which is already casual) I would stay away from legging and probably any skinny leg silhouettes. If you were to do pants to make it more dressy, opt for a slack or a pant with more of a straight leg, or you can even do a cigarette pant.
And don’t forget the skirt! Here are some awesome personal takes on the graphic tee from Lookbook and DailyDisguise. Pair your graphic tee with a blazer and a pencil skirt, with accessories to match. Adding a few extra details will really pull your outfit together. Try a belt and an edgy necklace. Remember- accessories are your friend, and really can pull your look together.
For evening, try a longer tank with a graphic print. You can also add a blazer to polish your look off but also try a cute vest or leather jacket. My take on dressing up a graphic tee is to take it from eh. . . to edgy is to built on to it with great layering pieces.
Here is an example of doing a tank with a blazer and a skinny denim with a great color. Use a tuxedo-style blazer just to amp it up a bit. You can always add a state meant necklace and don’t forget a great heel.
Here are just a few examples, but now you have the tools to create a great outfit of your own using your favorite graphic tee!
