Question: Is it possible to make my eyeliner last longer?
Answer: Absolutely! But remember: not all eyeliners are made equal!
Is there really anything worse than spending time in the morning crafting a beautiful cat eye — only to look in the mirror an hour later and find your masterpiece has smudged off completely? It’s frustrating, and makes us all begin to question whether we should have bothered applying eyeliner at all. There has to be more to life than fretting about your eyeliner, right? Right!
Fortunately, our prayers have been answered by a few makeup gods who have blessed us with long-lasting, smudge-proof formulas that you can wear from day to night.
Want my #1 recommendation? Here it is. I struggled with eyeliner for quite a while before finding this one. Other options worked, but either had an applicator that I didn’t love, or they had funky formulas. This pen has magical powers — it gives you bold color pay-off with minimal effort, and it truly does stay all day. Even better, there’s an amazing selection of colors to choose from. Win!
This applicator isn’t nearly as easy to work with as the Stila pen, but for those who are advanced when it comes to eyeliner application, you’ll like this…a lot. What makes this particularly great is that the formula literally does not move until you peel it off. That’s right: it flakes/peels off when you remove it, as opposed to streaking your face and making you look terrifying. The color is definitely bold. A word of caution: If you have long lashes (like me), wipe off excess product from the applicator. Because the applicator is quite long, it can mix in with your lashes, making mascara application a bit tricky.
Dupe alert! This little wonder is a near-exact dupe for the Lancome Artliner. What sets this apart? It’s actually better! It’s like L’Oreal nailed down the winning formula and then chopped the applicator into 1/3 of the length. Meaning (unlike the Artliner) you won’t have to worry about this getting caught up in your lashes. What you get is a long-lasting, winning formula for a fraction of the cost.
A cult classic on most everyone’s ‘best’ list is the Urban Decay 24/7 eye pencil. As far as water-lining goes, I don’t think you’ll find a better match than this one right here!
I thought Jane Cosmetics was a thing of the past — that is, until I saw them spring back up in my local Ulta last year. If you’re looking for a budget-friendly version of the UD 24/7 pencil, this is your best bet. Rimmel Scandaleyes pencils are also up there, but there’s just something about this pencil. It’s top-notch.
Of course, it never hurts to use an eye primer when working with any form of eye makeup. Another great trick is to set your eyeliner with a shadow. Apply your liquid or pencil eyeliner as planned, and when finished…top off your work with a matching shadow using a small angled brush (like the MAC 266). Your liner will stay put even longer.
