Question: What will make my hair grow faster?
Answer: Long, beautiful hair—coveted by many, and yet not so easy to obtain. Long hair takes time and dedication; and really, who has time for that?!
Fortunately, there are some things you can do to speed up the growth process. No, there’s no magic pill or treatment. But, if you are consistent, you can achieve perfect long hair in no time. Here are a few tricks that are sure to make your hair grow faster:
1. Water & a healthy diet
Boring, right? But also effective. To grow long healthy hair, you have to be a healthy gal yourself. This means nourishing your body—and in return, your body will grant you healthier hair. Drink lots of water and remember that it’s tough to hide a poor diet. So, drink up (H2O, of course) and eat plenty of healthy foods.
In the same vein, be sure to eat lots of protein. And no, this doesn’t mean that you need to load up on beef. 55-60 grams of protein a day is sufficient, and you can get that through lean proteins, Greek yogurt, nuts, green vegetables, dairy and more.
3. Protect your hair from heat
Heat protectants are readily available, and they’re an absolute must-have when it comes to speeding up hair growth. If you’re serious about growing your hair out, avoid frequent blow-drying, straightening and curling. After all, you can’t forget to protect the hair you already have! Heat damage can lead to split ends and frail hair—meaning your hair will break off—which will seriously hinder your mission for longer hair.
4. Wash your hair less
Washing your hair less frequently will help preserve its radiance. Challenge yourself to skip a day or two of shampooing. In between washes, dry shampoo is a great alternative, as it’ll absorb any excess oil. If your hair is sweaty from a workout, rinsing your hair in the shower without shampoo is quite effective. When you do wash your hair, be sure to nourish it with a hair mask or oil treatment. I prefer argan oil and apply it to my hair at least 15 minutes before washing. Pro-tip: you can even sleep overnight with argan in your hair and wash it out in the morning. I take it a step further and also use argan oil on freshly washed, wet hair to help restore any moisture stripped from my hair as a result of washing. Argan oil is great because it moisturizes your hair while also protecting it from heat damage.
5. Trim split ends
A regular hair appointment is important when growing out your hair. No, you don’t have to cut off inches and inches. Tell your stylist you’re in the process of growing out your hair, and that you want only your split ends trimmed. Trimming your split ends frequently will prevent your strands from actually breaking off. And of course, hair breakage will definitely set you back on your quest for long hair.
Remember to be patient—no one’s going to become Rapunzel overnight. Just give it time and be sure to take care of your hair in the process. In the meantime, you can experiment with different styles as your hair grows!
