Question: How much makeup should I wear on a regular basis?
Answer: Wearing makeup is an entirely personal choice. You can wear as little or as much as you want to—it’s entirely up to you. It’s a creative medium, and the best way to figure out what works for you is through experimentation!
If you’re a beginner, focus on accentuating one feature in your beauty look. Here are a few suggestions to help you get started, along with some great beauty essentials for any look:
Skin Is In
If you want to play up your flawless skin, take inspiration from this look. Your skin looks its best when it’s moisturized (and when you can actually see it)! You don’t have to cake on piles of foundation in order to have good looking skin. Instead, keep it light and simple with a tinted moisturizer. It has a great, oil-free base and is available in a variety of shades.
Contouring is a great way to show off the shape of your face and your beautiful skin. Check out Abby’s tips on how to apply blush and bronzer to get the perfect summer glow.
Highlighter is one of my favorite beauty products. I love Benefit’s High Beam and Watt’s Up. Apply along your cheek bones, cupid’s bow and the inner corners of your eyes to give your skin that irresistible dewy, summer-ready look.
A defined brow is a great way to add a bold twist to this look and show off your gorgeous facial structure even more.
The Eyes Have It
Try Urban Decay’s Naked Basics Palette—it’s perfect for beginners because it contains the perfect array of neutrals. That way you can get started with a solid group of colors that won’t intimidate you. They’re all great quality and will complement your eyes for any occasion.
If you want a larger variety of colors to work with, check out the Coastal Scents Warm Palette. All 88 colors are highly pigmented and reasonably priced.
Using the lid, crease, outer corner technique is the best way to learn to apply eye shadow without feeling like you’ve got a ton of makeup on. Once you become more comfortable experimenting, you can begin using different colors.
Bronze shades are great if you’re just starting out. They add to the look of an enviable summer glow and are great sparkly fun.
Smile Like You Mean It
If you want to play up your pouty lips or great smile, an eye-catching lip color is the way to do it! Coral shades are trending for summer and there is a perfect shade for every skin tone.
My favorite shade is Rimmel London’s Lasting Finish by Kate Moss in the color 012. You can also try Revlon’s Just Bitten Lipstain + Balm. These are great because you can start off with just a little and the color will build up to a brighter shade as you continue to layer it.
A swipe of mascara (Benefit’s They’re Real is fantastic) will finish off the look.
When figuring out how much makeup to wear, focus on one facial feature that you really want to show off. These easy summer looks are a great starting point for anyone in need of timeless beauty must-haves!
