Question: What are the best, most long-lasting lip glosses out there?

Answer: The search for a long-lasting lip color is kind of like the search for the holy grail. As for lasting color plus incredible shine? That’s pretty much a fairy tale.

But wait! There’s a new product that’s been popping up in the beauty industry that claims to do just that. They’re called glossy stains, and they combine the high-shine finish of a gloss with the lasting color of a stain. They’re basically the Swiss Army Knives of the beauty world.

One of the most affordable gloss-stains out there is the Colour Riche Caresse Aqua Lacquer Lip Stain by L’oreal. Whew, try saying that five times fast. But, regardless of its ridiculously long name, this stuff really works! The color and shine truly go the distance, even despite the many coffee mugs which might threaten the appearance of your pout. This product is actually my go-to for mornings when I have back-to-back classes when I know I won’t have time to touch up my lipstick. And when the time comes to finally check my makeup, I find that I don’t even need to reapply. Talk about getting your money’s worth!

Now, for you Sephora-purists out there (you know who you are), Yves Saint Laurent makes a lovely product called the Glossy Stain which infuses lips with long lasting color and high-voltage shine. Its results are similar to those of the L’oreal lip stain, but with one major improvement- there are a ton more colors to choose from. So if you’re like me, and you like to have an array of shades to choose from in the morning (I can tell the difference between Carnation Pink and Tickle Me Pink in the Crayola 64, even to this day), the Yves Saint Laurent Glossy Stains might be the perfect products for you.

And finally, for you makeup-addicts-turned-MacGyvers out there, I offer you this solution: pick your favorite lip stain and your favorite gloss, and layer ’em up. My very favorite lip stain ever is the Sephora Lip Stain; it’s highly pigmented, matte, and I know from experience that I can eat an entire Chipotle burrito and guzzle a Diet Coke without it budging at all (major plus). So for long-lasting color with a ton of shine, I’d just slap on some of that magical stuff and then top it off with a nice clear gloss. You can always do the same with your favorite products- don’t be afraid to have fun with it!

So there you have it. Three solutions which will have your lips looking perfectly glossy, through whatever might come your way!

  • Definitely going to have to check out that gloss-stain, great post!
