Question: What is a great makeup routine for the club?

Answer: You have the perfect outfit all picked out for a night of dancing—but when you’re headed to the club, it’s time to break out of your usual beauty routine and crank up the fun for looks that’ll last all night. Lucky for us, there are breakthrough new products out there to help you bring out your inner Rocker girl or Bombshell and stay picture perfect till the sun comes up!

This spring it’s all about a flawless matte foundation base. The first step to party-perfect makeup is to spray a light mist of setting spray (I love Urban Decay’s All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray), over your face and let set for a few minutes. Use a dime sized amount of matte primer and apply all over your face.

Want to cover up those pesky dark circles under your eyes, or perhaps that zit that popped up unexpectedly? That’s easy! Actress Jessica Alba swears by this: mix your concealer with a drop of matte primer, then use a brush or your ring finger to gently tap the concealer underneath the eye area and onto the lid. Use this same trick to cover up any other blemishes or acne.

Party perfect foundation has two steps: liquid and powder. Dispense a quarter-sized amount of matte foundation to the back of your hand and apply it with a brush or sponge and brush onto your skin, starting at the center of your face and blending out (trust me, a little goes a long way). Hate foundation? No problem. Simply replace foundation with a BB or CC cream for lighter coverage.

The key to flawless matte foundation? Set the look with powder for long-lasting makeup. I prefer using a powder foundation for this step, as it will give you extra staying power and leave your skin with that only-in-a-makeup-ad soft airbrushed look. Apply a light dusting of powder in a soft circular motion, using a full and fluffy brush for an even finish.

Apply bronzer using an angled sculpting brush in the hollows of your cheeks, your T-Zone and anywhere the sun would naturally hit your face for a just-got-back-from-a-beach-vacation sunkissed glow. Swipe on a matte or subtle sparkly peachy pink blush on the apples of your cheeks towards your hair line with a tapered blush brush for goof proof wow cheekbones. Lightly dust translucent powder over entire face.

Next it’s time to decide: will you be a Bombshell or a Glam Rocker for the night?

Bombshell makeup is all about long, lush lashes! To define, tightly line all the way around your lash line with waterproof black eye liner. Use a shimmery neutral shadow from lashline to crease, while accentuating the contours of your eye with a taupe-y brown color. Using the same darker color, trace your bottom lashes using a liner brush for added sex appeal. Complete the eyes by using two different mascaras layered over each other. For max volume, I love any mascaras by L’Oreal, YSL or Dior. Top with dark black waterproof mascara. The trick to full lashes without adding falsies is sweeping the mascara wand through lashes (from base to end) to build and thicken—then repeat! Finish with a sparkly peachy pink gloss or red lipstick.

Some people are scared of getting raccoon eyes, but Rocker Glam is easier than you may think. This spring, the smokey eye is all about unexpected colors. Marc Jacob’s lightened up for his look “The Lolita”, swapping moody black for matte grayish-violet. Take a black or dark purple kohl liner and outline the shape of your eye. Follow along your crease, but only half way underneath the lash line. Makeup artists always say the key to this look is an extra sharp pencil before you start for a clean line. Next pick your eye palette and sweep a matte gray purple shadow on your top lashline using short brush strokes outward using a definer brush (my personal favorite is Smashbox Definer Brush #15), then reverse your direction to smudge the color along the lower lashline. Mix together dark aubergine matte color and a aubergine iridescent shade and smudge corner of the eye on upper and lower lashline in a V-shape for definition. To complete the look, apply two coats of mascara and a nude lip color. Want to add more drama to your Rocker Glam look? Be daring and line inside rims of eyes with black eyeliner to intensify the look and really make eyes pop. A jet-black waterproof liner is an essential to any makeup bag.

If you want extra staying power, there is one more thing to do: gently mist Urban Decay’s All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray over your face, making sure to stand 10-12 inches away, and you’re ready to put on your heels and dance the night away!
