Question: How can I achieve dressy casual style?
Answer: Sometimes dressing too casual can look a bit frumpy, especially if you’re trying to make a fashion statement. However, you don’t have to sacrifice being comfortable for looking chic. There are several small tweaks and additions you can make to your outfits to spice them up a bit and add a touch of class. Check out these outfit inspirations for dressy casual style:
1. Denim Debutant
In this outfit, Ashley Madekwe dressed up a basic chambray shirt with a patent leather skirt and textured jacket. The black heeled booties are a perfect compliment to this effortlessly sexy look.
2. Lovely in Leather
Jessica Alba is the queen of street style, and this outfit is a perfect example of looking trendy and comfy at the same time. Jess is sporting a great pair of printed harem pants, heeled booties, an embellished tee, layered army green jacket and chic leather jacket, as well as an incredible red bag. A leather jacket can really step up any outfit, so when in doubt, head for the leather (or faux leather!).
3. Rockin’ Romper
Rompers are just about the easiest thing to throw on and look completely fabulous and put together. This same romper could be dressed down with flats, or dressed up as Lea has done with a pair of strappy heels. Take it up a notch further and pair a printed romper with pumps and a tailored jacket.
4. Tasteful Track
Track pants are no longer your basic Adidas button-downs you wore in gym class. They can be seen dressed up with heels and a smart top, such as this white, loose blouse on Blake. I personally would have paired these pants with a closed-toe pump, but Blake is definitely rocking this look from top to bottom.
5. Simple Chic
Zoe Saldana’s all-black ensemble is augmented by a long camel pea coat. Long pea coats can easily dress up any basic outfit, whether it be jeans and a tee or even a shirt and tailored shorts. Leather leggings don’t hurt either as a great way to take your outfit from day to night.
Add a couple basic pieces to your wardrobe for when you need to quickly dress up an outfit, or just find a happy medium between casual and dressy. Keep key items such as jackets, booties, pumps, and statement jewelry in your car or office in case you need to throw something on for after-work drinks or an impromptu night on the town.
