Hollywood brought out their best gowns and nicest tuxedos on the red carpet at Sunday’s 87th Academy Awards ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The Oscars are known to be one of the most glamorous nights of the year, so it is no wonder that stars “saved the best for last.”
The pearl-embellished Calvin Klein Collection that Lupita Nyong’o graced us with was a favorite and although she impressed viewers at the 2014 Oscars in a light blue Prada gown, we’d have to say Emma Stone climbed to the top of the Best Dressed list in a chartreuse Elie Saab spring/summer ’15 Couture number. It was bound to happen after her strapless Lanvin jumpsuit was the most talked about during the Golden Globe awards.
Anna Kendrick stunned the crowd early on, wearing a custom coral silk gown by New York designer, Thakoon Panichgul. Margot Robbie arrived in a plunging Saint Laurent dress and a statement Van Cleef & Arpels necklace that was originally made for the Duchess of Windsor in the 1930s.
Red was one of the themes from the night with Dakota Johnson in a one-shoulder Saint Laurent, Rosamund Pike in a fitted Givenchy number, Solange Knowles in a vibrant Christian Siriano cape top and pant and Selma actor, David Oyelowo in a deep red Dolce & Gabbana tuxedo.
Although critics wished for more color on the red carpet, some of the biggest names in the industry stunned in neutral hues. Brand Ambassador, Marion Cotillard, wore a voluminous Dior Haute Couture gown. Julianne Moore wore a custom floral embroidered Chanel Haute Couture gown. “Karl Lagerfeld made this for me,” she told Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet. Felicity Jones made a statement in a gray Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown while Jennifer Aniston wore a sparkly Versace gown. Zoe Saldana opted for a blush pink Atelier Versace and showed off her curves just months after giving birth to twins.
Lebanese designers Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad are always a favorite on the red carpet with Jennifer Lopez, Luciana Duvall, Anna Faris, Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Chrissy Teigen choosing their designs for Sunday’s ceremony.
Host Neil Patrick Harris arrived in a gray tuxedo, while he had several outfit changes throughout the night including a marsala jacket with black lapels and a midnight blue velvet jacket. Jared Leto provided the color that critics were looking for in a lavender Givenchy tuxedo and white shoes. Eddie Redmayne went with a midnight blue Alexander McQueen tuxedo instead of his signature velvet. Common was certainly the best dressed for the guys in a velvet Prada tuxedo.
Peter Copping presented his first collection as the new Creative Director of Oscar de la Renta only five days ago and Sienna Miller chose a navy lace and floral macramé from the fall 2015 line.
Simple hair and makeup allowed Reese Witherspoon to grace the red carpet in an off-the-shoulder Tom Ford giving her a spot on our Best Dressed list.
