I love fall. It’s one of my favorite seasons for a lot of reasons (pumpkin spice lattes, crunchy leaves, cooler weather… just to name a few). However, there are a few things that I dislike about fall, one of which being the dry air. It’s horrible on the skin, and gets worse in the winter. The question then becomes: how do I keep my skin looking fresh and dewy even while the weather is trying to tear my face off? The answer is actually quite simple, and we’ll be jumping into the answer today. Follow these tips and you’ll have luminous skin all season long.

Tip 1: There’s no such thing as too much moisturizing.

Okay, so maybe there is, but when it comes to fall and winter, don’t be afraid to fly through those bottles of moisturizer. Moisturize morning and night and use an ample amount. Try getting a nice, thick night cream for while you’re asleep to help keep your skin hydrated. Basically, moisturizer is to your face what conditioner is to your hair: it helps replenish hydration against the damage your hair (or in this case, face) endures. Use a quality moisturizer. I like Yes to Tomatoes Daily Balancing Moisturizer. Feel free to try any of the other Yes To lines to fit your skin care needs (I use Yes To Tomatoes because it helps fight my acne issues). This moisturizer is thick but doesn’t feel heavy on the skin. It’s great at its job, so it’s definitely a good way to go.

Tip 2: Use a moisturizing primer

This is key if you want to keep dewy skin all fall and winter long. Primers are great for a lot of reasons—they help prep your skin for foundation, they make your foundation stay on longer, and they can be great hydration tools. Try out a moisturizing primer like L’oreal Magic Lumi Light Infusing Primer. Not only is this primer super moisturizing, but it also helps keep your skin looking dewy by infusing light particles onto your skin. This is a great drugstore buy for a quality product!

Tip 3: Use a hydrating foundation

This is key if you want to have dewy skin all winter long. Try out a hydrating foundation with a dewy finish. My current fave is NARS Sheer Glow. It has great coverage and leaves my skin looking dewy and hydrated all day long. For a cheaper buy, check out L’oreal True Match Lumi. It’s a similar product that has a beautiful dewy finish, plus it comes in just as many colors as the NARS foundation, but for a quarter of the price. Be sure to look out for foundations that say they’re hydrating—they’re your best bet to keep your skin hydrated and glowing all season.

Tip 4: When in doubt, try a BB or TM

BB Creams (beauty balms) and TMs (tinted moisturizers) are a great alternative to foundation in the fall and winter months. Yes, they’re more known for being alternatives for spring and summer due to their light weight and light coverage, but I promise you, they’re great year-round. Here’s why. BBs and TMs are naturally hydrating. It’s just in their nature. You need more moisture in the fall and winter, so using these products makes perfect sense. Plus, if you apply them with a foundation brush, you can get great coverage out of them, and they’ll be hydrating your face all day. I really like NP Set Memory Foundation, which is a hybrid between a foundation and a TM. It helps to “‘remember’ younger skin”, as said on the packaging, so it’s a great way to go. It comes in four shades and you can often find it on sale at Target.

Tip 5: Wear sunscreen

This is the final, and probably most important tip I have for you today. You’d think that fall and winter is when you can skimp on your sunscreen use, but that is the opposite of true. Winter especially is when you should be wearing sunscreen the most, as UV rays bounce off the bright white snow and reflect onto your skin as harsh as they do in the summer. It’s crazy important to be wearing sunscreen all year long. If you don’t like the feel of a greasy sunscreen on your face, ensure that your foundation or primer contains SPF. This will help to protect your skin and keep it glowing and fresh all season long!

Hopefully these tips helped put you at ease for the upcoming season. Your skin can stay hydrated this fall and winter. Follow these tips and you’ll be rocking a gorgeous glow all season! What are your favorite tips for hydrated skin?
