Question: Is it worthwhile to spend more money on makeup?
Answer: It depends on the product. Some products are definitely worth spending that extra cash on.
Foundation is probably the number one product you should splurge on – higher end foundations tend to have lasting results. Two foundation products that have won me over and are deserving of honorable mentions are Nars Sheer Glow Foundation and MAC Pro Longwear Foundation. They are long lasting and easy to apply, leaving your skin with a natural radiance. For acne or skin prone to redness, Clinique’s Acne Solutions is worth the buy.
Eyeshadow can go either way, but investing in the higher end eyeshadow palettes are typically worth the extra buck. When buying a high end eyeshadow palette, the quality of the shadow is better and the wear is usually prolonged. The majority of high-end palettes last up to one year. The most popular for extended use and quality are the Urban Decay Naked Palettes – they come in twelve beautiful shades and last all day. The palette itself also lasts a very long time.
Lastly, it’s important to keep brushes in mind when deciding what is worth investing in. Brushes have the power to last many years and are the key to creating the perfect makeup look. Brushes come in all different shapes and sizes, which makes it quite difficult to determine the best ones to purchase. Thankfully, many companies sell their brushes in kits to make it a lot easier for customers to choose the combination that works for them. If you’re new to brushes, a great high-end kit to start with is the Sigma Essential Kit.
It’s best to keep in mind that not all makeup is worth the extra splurge. Mascara is one makeup product that many people don’t mind purchasing at the drugstore. My favorite brands of mascara at the drugstore are Maybelline and Cover Girl. Maybelline’s Falsies and The Rocket are two of the best mascaras out there and they last all day and the bottle will last a very long time. Cover Girl also makes a great mascara called Lash Blast. If you are willing to spend the extra money, Benefit does have two great mascaras called Benefit: They’re Real mascara and BADgal.
Overall, spending extra money on makeup is an individual choice, but spending the extra buck on specific products is worthwhile, in my opinion. Higher end foundation and eye shadow can be long wearing and look fabulous. However, products like mascara are not always worth the extra price. Either way, there are great products that are both bargain and high-end.
