Fashion blogs, like all other blogs, are exciting to create and maintain. In fact, it seems like everyone has a blog these days. But how can yours stand out? And how do you create one?

Tips on how to start a fashion blog:

1. Find a platform

The platform is where your blog will be broadcast. Tumblr, WordPress, and Squarespace are all popular platforms. Most of these sites are free to use and offer a ton of features. It’s crucial to experiment, research, and figure out which site you prefer because all your activity will go through this platform of choice.

Another thing to keep in mind is hosting. You can decide to either self host, or have the site host for you. Most of the platforms will host for you. This basically means that it will provide you with outlines and themes. Self hosting means you use code to create every aspect of your site. Coding can open up creative possibilities. However, it can be a tricky thing to learn, so you may want to install a template onto WordPress. If you want to give self hosting a try and get your own domain, I suggest self-hosting and installing WordPress.

2. Name

It is important to figure out a name for your blog. Choose a name that means something to you and that stands out from the competition. Remember, many people blog. A memorable name might just be the difference between someone clicking on your links or passing you by. Your name should also indicate the direction your blog is headed in. For instance, a shoe blog could be named Feels for Heels.

3. A Topic

With fashion, are you focused more on street style? Reviews? Beauty? Overall style? Narrowing down your interests can help you create a name and engage readers. They’ll come to expect content from you on a specific topic. Naturally, it’s important to allow your personality to shine through your blog. Sometimes posts will deviate from the main focus of your blog, and that’s okay! Just don’t stray too far and keep your primary motivation in mind. If you want a mix of everything, that’s good too! Make sure this is clear to your readers, and create a separate page for all the subtopics you want to cover.

4.  Passion and Time

A passion fashion is a great place to start. Devote time to learn brand names, and trends. Read magazines to build your fashion expertise so that you’ll have more things to talk about on your blog. Readers are interested in both content and consistency. Make sure to update your blog at least once every two weeks with interesting content. Do that, and you’ll develop an audience in no time.

5.  Don’t Get Discouraged

The last thing to keep in mind is that not everyone gets 1,000 page views every month. The ones who make it that far are the ones who have been at it for a while, or are experts in their field and know how to engage people. When starting out, don’t expect a ton of people to automatically read your blog. Sometimes it works that way, but often times, it doesn’t. Either way, let your love for fashion drive you. In time, your audience will share your passions and will want to read your work.

Fashion is all about self-expression. Blogging isn’t that different. Remember to always be yourself, and have fun with it!
