Question: How do you style a pleated skirt?

Answer: If you are like me and attended private school, you can’t help but associate pleats with school days. You probably want to avoid them for that particular reason. Pleated skirts are on every runway right now but they will live on long, even after the season is over. As much as this looks like a trend, it’s simply a timeless piece. Surprisingly, it’s a piece that’s easy to style and is also flattering on most. It’s also versatile and can be dressed up or casual. However, some pleats create volume and who needs the extra weight? With all things classic or not, there are some tricks to the trade.

If you want to accentuate your waist line, wear your skirt at the slimmest part of your waist and pair it with a belt.

Avoid the boxy look. It doesn’t matter what size you are: when you wear a shirt with pleats, it tends to create a balloon and boxy look. To avoid looking shapeless, I suggest tucking the shirt in and paring it with some heels instead of flats. Also, don’t be afraid of the longer length, as the look is just as chic.

If you’re against tucking in your shirt, you can pair your pleats with a crop top.

Tying the knot: Let’s face it; not everyone wants to show their stomach, no matter how hot the weather is. If it’s too much skin for you, a great alternative is to tie one of your shirts.

However you work your pleats, rest assured, you will always be chic with a true classic look!
