Gingham hit the style mark this summer and will likely continue to be a staple print for fall. The good news is that this pattern is easy to mix and match without over-doing it. There are a variety of ways to wear gingham with items that you already have in your closet. It’s a great idea to start with the basic navy version of the print and work your way into more colors as you become comfortable with gingham. If you want to flaunt a little more flair, you can always add a statement necklace to make the colors of your look really pop!
Gingham with denim
To savor what little we have left of summer weather, wear a gingham button down with a basic pair of jean shorts. You can tuck the shirt into your shorts for a more pulled-together look, or even layer it over a denim jacket with the gingham collar and sleeves folded towards the outside of the jacket. Nearly every shade of gingham works well with denim because it’s a neutral.
Gingham with color
This option is for the bold who want to stand out. My favorite way to wear gingham is to mix the pattern with bright, colorful items like hot pink shorts, bright green pants, or red capris. To transition into colder weather, pair a gingham shirt over colored jeans. Try variations out until you find a color that works for you. If you want to be a little more reserved, try pastel colors like baby pink or light green.
Gingham solo
Gingham dresses have taken the market by storm this summer. They’re also a great fashion piece for fall. Right now, wear a patterned dress on its own. When it starts to get cool outside, layer a white button down or long-sleeve shirt underneath the dress. Better yet, purchase a long-sleeve shirt dress and adjust the sleeve length depending on the weather. Roll them up or down!
