Question: Why do girls dye their hair?
Have you ever watched an advert for a hair dye product, filled with beautiful women flaunting the hair colour you don’t have? Has it ever made you want to book an appointment with your hairdresser of choice, or rush out to your local drugstore to buy a DIY kit, because you want to look like the girl in the ad, with men (or women) falling all over her? Same.
WHAT’S WRONG WITH A GIRL’S NATURAL HAIR COLOR?
First off, there is nothing wrong with natural hair colour! In my experience girls & ladies who want to dye their hair do it to feel better about themselves.
In an article on thoughtcatalog.com Li-Ann Chin explains it beautifully. It’s all about the psychology behind it: girls dye their hair a specific colour because they think more men will be attracted to them.
Then again, the average girl could be dying her hair because she wants a change — to show that she’s grown up & can make her own decisions. Or even to rebel against what her family wants. Or to fit into a certain class of people, or to make herself one of the cool kids. Ya feel?
All in all, I think that girls should be allowed to dye their hair without people asking why because it is, after all, her own decision and if it makes her feel happy and content with herself, who are we to judge?
“I thought I’d be edgy and dye my hair red. And I dyed my hair, like, Jessica Rabbit red. It kind of allowed me to have this whole new confidence and this whole new swagger and this whole new sense of self. It kind of brought out the inner rock star in me. I had never dyed my hair like that, and no one forgot me after that.” – Candice Accola
