So, you’re stranded on an island and you obviously choose chapstick, but which one?

Leandra Medine “deserted islands” or not, I’m bringing chapstick to the deserted island party.

The issue of which chapstick to accompany you on a deserted island, as with most prospects in life, begs the question: Which came first – your own approval or Gwyneth Paltrow’s approval? And in the case of choosing a chapstick, it was surprisingly of my own accord.

Hi. Gwyneth fan here. However, finding a formidable chapstick was more me bargaining at Kiehl’s than reading Goop. At the time I was curious about the merchandise behind the brand and wanted an affordable introduction to their products. The only Kiehl fan I knew of outside of Chloë Sevigny was nobody. But I wanted to try something new that I would use all the time.

A purchase of chapstick it was.

Me and chapstick go way back. Teased by my uncle and brothers at the age of ten, I was guilty of licking my lips to alleviate their dryness. The constant lip smacking irritated the skin around my lips. I was deemed, “Psycho Lipp”.

So, what’s the solution to baggage tied up with chapped lips?

Total obsession, loss of control, and vulnerability of course.

Jk. The fix? Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1. The price: $7. Reading about Gwyneth Paltrow’s endorsement of said lip balm months later? Priceless. (Or five dollars, if you bought last year’s “World’s Most Beautiful Woman” issue in People.)

Listed as one of her “fave products” in her “beauty blueprint” (I’m listening…), Gwyneth highlights Kiehl’s original chapstick, Lip Balm #1. I was two months into my trial with the product when I learned Gwyneth Paltrow was also a fan. By then, I had seen the lip balm’s potential and had recommended it to others.

Now, after a year of trying Kiehl’s products for the first time, I’m a repeat customer, coming for the chapstick and staying for the humblebrag that I use Gwyneth Paltrow’s chapstick. The petroleum-based skin protectant keeps my lips soft, smooth and matte lipstick ready. It’s uncluttering, effective & comes with made in the USA good vibes.

Kiehl’s Lip Balm #1 is desert island worthy. My fave Gwyneth roles? Seven, The Talented Mr. Ripely, and a youtube video of her singing Betty Davis Eyes in Duets.

Which chapsticks do you think are all they’re cracked up to be?
