Question: How do I get red lipstick to last?
Red lipstick is one of the most classic makeup looks. Applying red lipstick can be tricky on its own, but making it last is even harder. There are, however, a few tricks you can use to make your red lipstick stay on all day. With the help of these tricks, you’ll be a master of red lipstick in no time!
Invest in a Good Product
The product itself is one of the most important factors in ensuring your red lipstick will last. Some lipsticks have incredible staying power, while others do not. It’s best to avoid ones that don’t when it comes to red lips. But for every red lipstick that doesn’t stay on, there is another that lasts forever. The key is finding it. Some of my favorite long-wearing lipsticks are: MAC Pro Longwear Lipcreme in Prolong, Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear in Melted Ruby, and elf Studio Moisturizing Lipstick in Red Carpet for those of you who don’t want to pay $20 for a lipstick! These lipsticks are fantastic at staying on.
Consider a Stain
Lip stains work similarly to lipsticks, only their main purpose is to stay on. Lots of companies are making lip stains nowadays, and many of them are great! My favorite is elf Studio Lip Stain in Red Carpet. This product comes in a double-ended tube that looks a lot like a lip gloss, and even applies similarly to one. It has a matte finish and can be topped off with clear gloss or left as a matte stain. This stuff stays on forever! The great thing about a stain is that it literally stains your lips, so even if the product itself comes off, your lips retain the color. Consider one of these bad boys as opposed to a traditional red lipstick!
Lip liners help lipstick last longer. That’s just a fact. Lip liners will also keep your lipstick from feathering or bleeding all over your face. Additionally, most of these little pencils are made to stay on for a while so that even if the lipstick does come off, the lip liner will remain beneath. Use one of these before your lipstick and be sure to fill your lips in completely!
Try the Powder Method
This last tip is one used by makeup artists to lock in the color. Apply the color once, then place a tissue over your lips. Take a brush and some translucent loose powder like elf Studio High Definition Powder and lightly brush over your lips on top of the tissue. This will allow a small amount of powder to come through, and it’ll also blot off the excess lipstick. This helps make your lipstick last a crazy long time! Apply a little extra lipstick on top if you’d like, or leave it as-is. This method is easy, and it works!
These tips will help you become a master of red lipstick. Red lipstick is always on-trend and is actually quite easy to wear!
