Question: What are your best travel beauty tips?

Answer: Airplane travel can really do a number on your skin (especially those long haul flights). Let’s just say that the airplane cabin is not a great place for a beauty lover like myself; I always leave the plane with parched skin and a few fresh zits. As someone who leads a pretty bi-coastal life, I have perfected my airplane beauty routine down to a T. Here are 4 my best travel beauty tips:

No one wants pounds of makeup caked onto their faces during a stuffy and dry 12 hour flight. I keep it simple with a light powder foundation like Bare Minerals Original Foundation, which doubles as a concealer when applied with a flat concealer brush. Plus, I don’t feel so bad about falling asleep with mineral foundation on. When it comes to eye makeup, keep it simple by vouching for a bronze cream shadow. Apply the cream eyeshadow onto your eyelids for instant definition. Top it off with a few coats of mascara — and don’t forget to curl those lashes!

I highly recommend removing your makeup before dozing off for the flight. Airplane cabins are full of germs, so I never enjoy falling asleep with makeup on. Removing my makeup gives me the peace of mind that I’m taking every step to keep my skin clear. I recommend removing makeup and gently cleansing your skin with a cream cleanser (to retain moisture) and following up with a good moisturizing product.

After removing makeup and cleansing skin, go for a heavy-duty moisturizer. A good night cream or moisturizing mask like Avene’s Soothing Moisture Mask will really bring the life back to your skin.

My flying beauty routine doesn’t just end once I reach my destination! The night after the flight, I always pamper my skin. My skin is usually feeling pretty distressed so I always reach for a nice charcoal mask to help draw impurities out of my skin. I follow up with another round of a moisturizing mask — I go to bed with it on and always wake up with baby soft skin. Opting for a great post-fly beauty routine will really help counteract the effects of a long plane ride.
